Chocolates, waffles, and mussels--oh my! A weekend in Brussels, Belgium

Belgium welcomed us with crisp fall weather and crispy waffles! We spent the weekend site-seeing, shopping for souvenirs, and stuffing our faces with chocolates, waffles, and mussels in Brussels! I don't know about you, but that sounds like 3 food groups for a well-balanced diet!

Although our weekend was short, we were able to make the most of it! Our flight left Prague at around 6AM and we arrived in Brussels around 8AM. We flew into Charleroi, an airport south of Brussels and took an hour shuttle to the city. Before we checked into our hostel, we got breakfast at Peck 47 and indulged in their coffee and the Peck Special!

Chorizo waffles with poached eggs, bacon, and special Peck 47 sauce! 10/10 would recommend!

After breakfast, we walked around the city center, found the statue of the peeing boy (Manneken Pis), and felt the awe of the Grand Place. Although it was only Friday morning, the streets were already filled with tourists getting their dose of Belgian chocolate, us included!

The hostel we selected was called 2Go4 City Hostel. They offered good rates for our group and was only a fifteen-minute walk to the city center, meaning a safe but still accessible distance to waffles, chocolates, and fries!

The first day, we explored the St. Michael's Cathedral, climbed on the statue of the mustache man, witnessed a wedding at Brussels Town Hall, saw the Royal Palace of Brussels, and enjoyed the fall weather in Brussels Park!

For dinner, we satisfied our mussels-in-Brussels craving with a meal at Chez Leon! We waited in line for over an hour but the meal was well worth it! Our meal included a load of buttery mussels, crispy fries, and a beer for around 15 euro! After dinner, we enjoyed a beer at Delirium, a bar that serves the famous Belgian beer.

Our adventures continue! The next day, we took the metro to see the Atomium! We did not go into the museum but we had our share of touristy-fun by taking pictures outside of the sculpture and getting more waffles! Also--Happy 60th birthday, Atomium!

The sky started to clear up throughout the day! After we shopped for chocolates at the Royal Gallery of Saint Hubert, we went back to the Grand Place and was even more blown away by the golden details on the buildings glistening in the sunlight!

We wrapped up the night by getting our last doses of Belgian treats and souvenirs. The weekend flew by but we were ready to be back in Prague! Our RyanAir flight left Brussels early Sunday morning and we were back home around 10:30 AM.

Needless to say, my heart--and my stomach--are full. Thanks for the love, Brussels.

Next stop: Budapest, Hungary!

Au revoir,
